Українка стала членом Комітету ООН з прав дитини

Ukrainian Representative Elected to UN Committee on the Rights of the Child 23.06.2026 20:46 Ukrinform Svitlana Ilchuk, a representative of Ukraine, has been elected to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child following a vote by the States Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

This was reported to the Ukrinform correspondent in New York by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Andriy Melnyk.

According to him, the Ukrainian candidate, an expert in children’s rights, received the support of 111 states.

Melnyk emphasized that Ukraine achieved victory in a highly competitive environment.

“Seventeen candidates from different regions of the world, recognized specialists in the field of child protection, vied for nine seats on the committee,” the diplomat stated.

He described the voting results as evidence of the strengthening of Ukraine’s position within the UN and a sign of the international community’s trust in the Ukrainian state.

Melnyk also highlighted the particular significance of the election of the Ukrainian representative amidst the ongoing struggle “to bring back thousands of Ukrainian children abducted and forcibly deported by Russia, illegally transferred from the occupied territories.”

According to the Permanent Representative, participation in the committee’s work will create additional opportunities for protecting the rights of children who have suffered as a result of Russian aggression.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is an independent expert body that monitors the implementation by states of the provisions of the 1989 UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

As Ukrinform reported, the United Nations recorded 1899 grave violations of children’s rights in Ukraine committed by the Russian army over the past year, and Secretary-General António Guterres once again included the Russian army on the “list of shame.”
